Deva Stated- Volume 4

Each and every time I look at the Miss Gay America website, I’m taken back to see myself there. For me becoming MGA was a consistent 7 year journey. Some take more and some take less; but regardless the journey is so worth it and the memories are abundant. My life has changed in every possible way since that incredible night in New Orleans. Each step of that journey makes you stronger and more self aware. 

I kept a folder along the way with each and every judges score sheet , I carried those with me and went through them every time I competed. I urge each promoter to carefully consider your judges, they are the voices shaping our next Miss Gay America and their role is extremely important; do they know each category and sub category? Are they going to inspire the contestants? Do they have the required knowledge and communication skills to push your titleholder to the next level? As a contestant I ask that you carefully consider all of the advice and critiques given by your judges; they are there to help you grow. To see things that may have gone unnoticed. All pieces of the machine working in unison to create the perfect MGA candidate.

Contestants as you pick your prelims, consider your personal needs. Some contestants have the creativity, but lack the financial backing. A financially secure contestant may seek the promoter that provides moral support and offers creative directions. Carefully access what is right for you, finding the promoter that fits your individual needs is essential in creating the winning formula.

As we approach our first prelim of the season I’m sure you’re wondering about my theme! I hate to even think about stepping down; but I know it is inevitable. The theme for MGA 2019 and presentation will be : FANTASTICAL CREATURES!!!!!!!!!!!! I urge to look into fantasy, Greek mythology, sci-fi, etc. Be creative and have fun, take us and your judges in to a world of total fantasy. Think outside the box, while considering your sub categories. I cannot wait to see what you bring to the stage!!!!!!!!!!
