The Kronicles of Kirby
Miss Gay America 2012 Kirby Kolby
December 2011
They say that time flies when you’re having fun… That must be true because I am definitely having fun and time most certainly is flying. It’s hard to believe that a month and a half has passed since I was crowned and that I am already writing the second installment of my column. The past few weeks have been a series of travels, appearances, bookings, and shows. With each time I appear as Miss Gay America, it feels more and more real and I am filled with pride to be the country’s “Symbol of Excellence” for the year. I am thankful for the wonderful emails, text messages, and calls of congratulations and well wishes.
My travels began a couple of days after I returned home from the Miss Gay America pageant. My first appearance as the new Miss Gay America was at The Scorpio Nightclub in Charlotte, NC. The Miss Gay North Carolina promoters, Brian and Tiffany, welcomed me with open arms and the crowd’s reception was overwhelming. Even though I had performed on The Scorpio stage many times during my career, it truly was a magical feeling to be announced as Miss Gay America in my home state.
A couple of weeks later, I returned to Columbus, OH where I was invited to be the special guest at The Belvedere Vodka Red launch party. A special thanks goes out to Sam Schisler, Union Café, and Axis Nightclub for their warm hospitality. It was a joy getting to spend some time with Miss Gay Ohio, Deva Station and many other local Columbus celebrities. I couldn’t have been treated any nicer and I am grateful for such a wonderful time.
The following week took me to three great cities. Baltimore, MD was first on the list. Miss Gay Maryland promoter Roger Dimick and Hippo show director Josie really went out of their way to show me a great time. It was a blast performing with Miss Gay Maryland America Chi Chi Ray Colby, my 3rd Alternate, Araya Sparxx, former top ten finalist Sue Nami, Miss Gay America 2002 Sabrina White and once again, Miss Gay Ohio America, Deva Station. I’m beginning to think that he may be stalking me. LOL … just kidding. The next night I travelled to Washington, DC to perform at Ziegfeld’s with Patti Lovelace and The Ladies of Illusion showcast. A big thank you goes out to my DC promoter Robert York and Ziegfeld’s manager, Jon Parks for taking care of me. After a late night, I headed to Richmond, VA where I performed at Godfrey’s famous drag brunch and then rode home with my good sister/Miss Gay America 2011, Coti Collins.
Next week, I travel to Memphis, TN for my orientation weekend with Larry and Terry. I am excited and eager to learn what is expected of me as Miss Gay America as I prepare to travel the country in the upcoming pageant season. While in Memphis, I will also be special guest at the Miss Blues City America pageant, a preliminary to Miss Gay Tennessee. I am confident that it will be a rewarding weekend both in getting to know Larry and Terry a little better, while gaining a wealth of knowledge in rules, duties, and codes of conduct.
During my travels, and with the holidays amongst us and preparations in full swing, I have found myself taking time to reflect on the blessings in my life and the things that I am truly thankful for. The things that matter most to me are not worldly possessions, but rather the friendships, relationships, and people that make life rewarding. So with all the shopping, and gift giving, and parties, I urge each of you to be thankful for the people in your life and spend time with those who love you and whom you love in return.
Wishing you the Happiest of Holidays!!!

January 2012
Happy New Year!! It's hard to believe that 2011 has ended and we are embarking on a new year filled with unforeseen adventures and activities. I am hopeful and optimistic that 2012 will be a great year filled with wonderful memories to last me a lifetime. This past year will be one that I will never forget as it will be remembered as the year with the moment of my greatest elation, yet also the moment with my greatest heartbreak. So here's to the new year ... may it be a wonderful and exciting year for us all.
I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and got to spend time with family, friends and loved ones. I also hope Santa was good to you, even for the ones of you who have been naughty this year. This holiday season was especially wonderful for me. I got to spend time with my family and friends and enjoy the spirit of the season. It was touching to be surrounded by the people that mean the most to me and realize just how blessed I am to have them in my life. Their love and friendship were truly the greatest gifts to me this holiday. However, my new iPad was pretty high on the list too.
December was a bit of a hectic and trying month for me, as it seems that I have been battling a severe head and chest cold for most of the month. I got to travel to Memphis, TN for the annual retreat and orientation weekend with Larry and Terry. Even though I could barely hear for the first 5 hours, from my ears being about to burst from the flight, I can say that the weekend turned out to be one that I will never forget. It was such a pleasure getting to know these gentlemen on a more personal level and experiencing firsthand the passion and love that they have for the Miss Gay America Pageant. Also, I was forewarned by some of my previous MGA sisters to arrive with a hearty appetite. I must tell you that was an understatement!!! Aside from being fed every 10 minutes, I received my Miss Gay America Handbook and had a chance to sit down and go over several rules and regulations and other important information. We also took time to choose my official MGA photos for this year. One already appears on the website. Make sure to stay tuned for the others. I also was fortunate enough to be able to watch videos of past Miss Gay America Pageants from years that I had only heard about. Seeing such great icons who paved the way for so many of us, made me realize how rich in history this system is and also how humbling it is to now be a part of this sisterhood.
Also while in Tennessee, I had the pleasure of being the special guest at the Miss Blues City America pageant. It is a city preliminary to Miss Gay TN America, and the promoters Mike Divoky and Rodney Brown were an absolute joy to work with. They went out of their way to make sure I was well taken care of and had a great time. I got to spend time with my sister, Miss Gay TN Pat McCooter and see her in action as the administrator at her first prelim. I must say she did an excellent job and it made me proud to be a part of the night.
Iris Le'Fluer walked away as the winner. Best of luck to him as he prepares for Miss Gay Tennessee.
The week before Christmas, I was invited to be the guest entertainer at the Scorpio Christmas party in Charlotte. A big thank you to Tiffany Storm for being such a gracious host and including me in the festivities. I got to spend time with the reigning Miss Gay NC Jessica Raynes Starr, plus getting to see two of my MGA sisters, Kerri Nichols and Luscious. A great time was had by all.
As we shift gears and move forward with the upcoming pageant season, I want to encourage all of you potential contestants to plan early and get the ball rolling on ideas for your packages. Preparation is key to a successful showing, and will make the difference in securing a spot, or not, to Miss Gay America 2013. It was this time last year, that I sat down and decided I would reenter the pageant arena, and look where I wound up!! Just a bit of advice for you. I also suggest to promoters to start planning and looking over dates for your pageants. I am excited and enthusiastic about working with each of you.
In closing, I want to say that I know that many of us make resolutions for the new year. And most of the time, we try for awhile and wind up not sticking to them. So this year, I want to urge each of you to make the resolution of just being a nicer person to others and treating everyone as your equal. You'll be surprised at how much richer and rewarding your life will be. I wish you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!!
Much love,

February 2012
"There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved."
I start this edition of my column with a profound quote by the French novelist George Sand. The month of love is upon us and it's time to show that special someone just how much he or she means to you. Even though, I personally think that you should do that every day of the year, sometimes we need a little reminder of just how important someone is to us.
It's hard to believe that February is already here and I'm well into the fourth month of my reign as Miss Gay America. I was told that no matter how much you prepare yourself for the title or how much you imagine what your year will be like, you will never fully grasp and understand the enormity of being Miss Gay America, until you actually are experiencing it first hand. I must say that even though I have been involved in the art-form of female impersonation for well over twenty years, and I've travelled to and performed in many cities, the reception that I have received thus far still overwhelms me at times. Being a small town country boy from the sticks of North Carolina, I never imagined in all my life that I would be showered with so much love and kindness and to be held in such high regards. It's quite a humbling feeling and I am truly thankful.
I feel like January was almost a blur. It came and went so quickly, that I'm not sure I had time to catch my breath. The first of month of 2012 proved to be a busy and exciting one for me. I was lucky to ring in the new year at my home bar of Legends in Raleigh, NC with my showcast sisters and got to perform Mariah Carey's version of "Auld Lang Syne" as I was announced Miss Gay America 2012. It was truly a wonderful and invigorating way to start what is sure to be the busiest and most rewarding year of my life.
The second week of January, I packed my suitcases full as I was off to a week long trip to Arizona. My longtime friend Barbra Seville arranged the trip for me and got me booked at some wonderful Phoenix clubs such as Karamba, Friends, The Rock, and Cruisin 7th. I have to admit that I was excited yet quite nervous as this was my first time to Arizona. All my anxiety was put to rest as each club welcomed me with open arms and the crowds were warm and receptive. I even had a red carpet rolled out for me as "There She Is, Miss America" was played at my first performance. An added bonus of the trip was getting to spend some time with the current Miss Gay AZ Celia Putty. Richie, his partner Bill, and their hound dog Millie Mae graciously opened their home and their hearts to me for the duration of my stay. I also got to spend some time with the promoters for Miss Gay AZ, Daniel Eckstrom and Lee Revelle. I even had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful Desert Botanical Gardens where I got to experience some of the plants and foliage that make the wonderful state of Arizona so unique. On my last night in Phoenix, I was invited to be the special guest at the Miss Gay Copper City pageant, which is a city preliminary to Miss Gay AZ. A big thanks goes out to the promoter, Joe Saputo for being so gracious to me. It was a joy to watch Celia administrate over his first city prelim. I congratulate him on a job well done. At the end of the night, Nevaeh McKenzie walked away with the crown, with Masquerade as 1st Alternate. I look forward to seeing both of these gentlemen again as they compete at the state pageant in August. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I had a great time, and I definitely fell in love with Arizona!! I cannot wait to go back!! Which reminds me, can someone find me a portable air conditioner to take with me to Arizona in August?!?!?
After jet setting back home for a week which included bookings around the state of NC and in Richmond, Va at the clubs of Morgan's, Legends, and Godfrey's, I had just enough time to repack and head to Tennessee for the annual Mystic Krewe of Pegasus Memphis Mardi Gras Ball where I was asked to perform and emcee. The event was larger than life with the elaborate table decorations and amazing costumes on display. It was nice to spend time with Larry, Terry, Mike Divoky, and Pat McCooter. I also got to see Miss Gay Arkansas, Zia D'Yor and former Top Ten finalist Sasha Leigh Chambers. Of course a trip to Memphis wound not be complete without a feast of some sort. The weekend was capped off with a visit to the "Paula Deen Buffet" at Harrah's Casino right before I was taken to the airport. I swear I am going to be 300lbs by the time of my give up!
In closing, I hope that all of you have a very Happy Valentine's Day!! If you're fortunate to have someone special in your life, make sure that you take the time to let them just how much they mean to you. For those of you, like myself, who are living the single life, I propose that we just boycott the month all together! LOL. Seriously though, just look within your heart and find a way to love yourself even more.
Much love,
Miss Gay America 2012 Kirby Kolby

March 2012
March is here, and you know what that means!! It's the start of the pageant season and prelims will be underway!
I have been anxiously waiting for everything to begin and now it's officially here. I will be administrating my first official preliminary, Miss Gay Mid America on Friday, March 9 in Memphis. This is a standard regional preliminary, so I urge all you potential contestants who want to secure an early spot, to come and compete. Also, on March 24, I will be relinquishing my title as Miss Gay DC America in our nation's capital. This is also a great prelim to enter, having produced 3 of the last 4 Miss Gay Americas. I'm sure the evening will prove to be a very emotional one for me. I would love to see you there, if you can make it. Please check outwww.missgayamerica.com for more information on these and more upcoming preliminaries.
I have been busy talking with several promoters getting preliminaries scheduled and dates set. I must say it's great to hear the enthusiasm in each promoter's voice as they talk about the plans for their pageant. I look forward to attending each one around the country and getting to know everyone better, while performing my duties as Miss Gay America 2012. To all you promoters who I have yet to speak with, I am eager to talk with each of you and get plans in order. It proves to be an exciting year ahead, and I anxiously embrace it as my time to reign.
Many contestants have already contacted me and asked for my opinion on what prelim would be best for them. While I will try to be as encouraging and helpful as I can, the decision is ultimately up to the individual. All of our prelims are amazing, special, and unique in many ways, so there is no way possible that I could say that one is more appropriate or suitable than another. I suggest to all of you looking for a prelim, to do your research. It's always wise to ask past titleholders about their experiences, find out about dates and prize packages, and even take a moment to contact the promoters and introduce yourself, so that you can get a personal feel for what might be best for you.
I know that many of you read my column to keep up with the going's on of Miss Gay America and to find out where I've travelled to and hear about my excursions and adventures. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to report on this month. Sometimes in our lives, we need to take a moment to just breathe, so as to relax ourselves from the stress and hectic activities of our day to day routines. The month of February was that time for me. When planning my calendar a couple of months back, I decided that I would keep my travels to a minimum and just focus on myself and the things around me, before my year as Miss Gay America kicked into full swing with preliminaries and various duties. Of course I worked every weekend at my home club of Legends, and did my twice a month booking at the famous brunch in Richmond, plus served as head judge and entertainer for the Miss Don't H8 pageant. So don't think that I was on vacation somewhere, sipping a cocktail. LOL.
With that being said, take time to appreciate the things around you and the people in your lives. Many thanks to all of you for sharing this journey with me.
Much love to you all,
Miss Gay America 2012 Kirby Kolby

April 2012
Spring has officially sprung and pageant season is in full gear! This is my favorite time of the year, with everything blooming and growing. It's a time to shake off the sluggishness of winter and be vibrant and active, while enjoying the outdoors. I feel energized with the warmer temperatures and excited about my year and the pageants and experiences that I will encounter.
March was a great month for me as it was the start of the official 2013 pageant season. I have to admit that my anxiety level was at an all time high as I anxiously prepared for the start of my preliminaries. I have a tendency to get into my head too much and over think things. I know that I need to just be comfortable in my abilities and be myself, and just let nature take it's course. Now with two preliminaries under my belt, I am settling into the role of Miss Gay America and the duties at hand. Even though there are still many pageants and unforeseen obstacles to encounter, I am confident that it's going to be an amazing year.
The first preliminary, Miss Gay Mid America Regional was held on March 9 at Crossroads Nightclub in Memphis, TN. I was overwhelmed with pride as six wonderful contestants showed up to compete. And I must say, a competition it was!! I knew immediately at registration that it was going to be a close call as there were four previous top 10'ers, a former state titleholder, and a former regional contestant. Each contestant brought their best and battled to the end, but it was Sally Sparkles who triumphed and took top honors, with Blair Williams securing the 1rst Alternate spot. I look forward to seeing what both these gentlemen bring to the Miss Gay America pageant in October.
My weekend couldn't have been any greater with so many wonderful people there to lend support and encouragement. Larry and Terry put together a well run pageant and assisted me every step of the way. It was joyful being able to watch Symphony Alexander Love pass along the crown and also to work with Tanisha Foxx who graciously helped emcee. Also having several preliminary promoters in attendance was quite a treat ... Howard and Don, promoters for Tennessee; David Green, the new promoter for Miss Louisiana and Miss Southern Elegance; and Reba Lamke Knabe of Miss Tri States. Also a big thank you to my MGA sisters, MGA 1996-Kerri Nichols and MGA2004-Rachael Erikks for being there and for their support, help, and advice.
Two weeks later, I found myself in the car with MGA 2011 Coti Collins heading to our Nation's Capital for the Miss Gay DC Regional Pageant. It was held on March 24 at Town Danceboutique in Washington. This prelim proved to be an emotional one for me, as I would be relinquishing the title that propelled me to capture the crown of Miss Gay America. Promoters, Robert York and Brian Alexander, met me with open arms at registration and put on a great pageant. Four well prepared contestants came with a hunger and a determination to win. Chantel Reshae emerged as the new Miss Gay DC, with Roxy Brooks as 1st Alternate. Best of luck to these gentlemen as they prepare for October.
I must say the highlight of the pageant was having FIVE Miss Gay Americas in attendance. I was joined by my sisters, MGA 2011-Coti Collins, MGA 2000-Catia Lee Love, MGA 1996-Kerri Nichols, and MGA 1999- Linda Carrero for an amazing night. It was truly and honor to be standing amongst them.
So with two preliminaries out of the way, I urge all of you potential contestants to make preparations on your packages and carefully choose what future prelim will be best for you. With that being said, I want to give a piece of advice to those of you who have competed in the system before. Don't rely on your success from previous years to help secure your spot to the national competition. There is a whole wave of new blood that is hungry to get their tickets to Miss Gay America. Sometimes we can become overly confident in what may have had success in the past. As with all the pageants, there can only be one winner and one 1st Alternate position. If you are not lucky enough to secure one of those, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP!!! If it is your dream to be Miss Gay America, let nothing stop you!! Take time to listen to the critiques and advice from the judges and take a strong hard look at the package you presented. Most often our friends and supporters are not the best group to get an opinion from on what we present. Seek advice from others outside of your group and from entertainers who have achieved success. The words of wisdom they choose to give you will reward you far greater than those from your best friends.
Until next time, keep striving to be the best! I know I will be.

May 2012
Hello to all of you fans, friends, supporters, and lovers of drag and Miss Gay America!! Let me start off by apologizing for the May edition of my column for being so late. With everything that has been going on lately in the last couple of weeks ... my personal family situation, trips to Louisiana and Oklahoma, and every day life ... time just seems to slip through my fingers. It's hard to believe that it's already May and 7 months have already passed of my reign. October will be here before I know it.
Along with my regular shows at my home club of Legends in Raleigh, and my drag brunches at Godfrey's in Richmond, Va, April afforded me two great trips. My yearly Easter weekend trip to Chicago was a nice break from ongoings of my life. I attended the annual Miss Continental Plus and Elite pageants at The Park West Theater and The Baton Show Lounge. Both were wonderfully operated pageants, with amazing entertainers from across the country. I feel that with holding the title Miss Gay America and representing the system, it is important to attend pageants of the other systems, and to promote not only Miss Gay America, but female impersonation as a whole. A lot of entertainers and title holders from the other systems, got their start in Miss Gay America, and will be the first to tell you that it helped mold their career and shape them into the entertainers they are today, by showing them the fundamentals of drag, and skills learned in interview. It was great to feel the love and respect, while being recognized as Miss Gay America in Chicago.
A week later, I found myself heading to Baltimore for the Miss Gay Maryland America pageant. The wonderful Chi Chi Ray Colby was passing along her crown that weekend and picked me up at the airport on Friday morning, with a smile on her face in anticipation of a terrific pageant. The events started on Friday night with a show benefiting cancer research which proved to be very rewarding. Saturday started with registration and 9 enthusiastic contestants vying for the title. A special dinner followed Saturday night and then the review show, featuring several incredible former Miss Gay Maryland America titleholders. It was heart warming to see the camaraderie between the contestants and the formers, as you could tell they were a close knit group who supported each other. After two great nights of pageantry, the beautiful Alondra Sancheez emerged victorious, with Stephanie Michaels close behind as 1st Alternate. It was great spending time with my Miss Gay America sisters .... Linda Carrero, Sabrina White, and Catia Lee Love. Much thanks to a wonderful judges panel of Sabrina, Alexis Mateo, Sue Nami, Tillie Lane of Oklahoma, and Daniel Eckstrom of Arizona for making my job a little easier. Also a very special thanks to Chuck Bowers, Club Hippo, and especially, Roger Dimick for taking such great care of me all weekend.
Two days after returning from Maryland, I was set to attend the Miss Gay Missouri pageant in Columbia, Mo. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to the pageant. My sincerest regrets go to the promoters, contestants, formers, and fans for not being able to attend. I hear that it was an excellent pageant that went off without a hitch. I would like to thank my sister, Jennifer Foxx - Miss Gay America 1982 for stepping in and overseeing the administrative duties of the pageant. It just proves that once you are a Miss Gay America, you are always a Miss Gay America. I would also like to thank Jade Sinclair and Emilio Olivera for understanding and be so supportive to me. Congratulations go out to the new Miss Gay Missouri America - Michelle McCausland and her 1st Alternate L'oreal. I look forward to seeing both of these gentlemen in October in Columbus, Ohio.
As I am sure you all know, the past couple of weeks have been very hard for me. On April 27, after two years of fighting, my mother lost her battle with breast cancer. I was there by her side with my brothers and sisters as she passed away. It was a day I hoped and prayed would not happen during my reign, but alas it did. I almost backed out from competing last October because of my Mom's condition and her declining health. But I knew that she would not want me to put my life on hold for her, so I chose to go ahead with my plans. I truly believe that things happen for a reason in life, and I told someone that often many have to deal with death and grief alone, but luckily for me as Miss Gay America, I have an entire country to lean on during this difficult time. I cannot truly express the gratitude that I have for the outpouring of love and support that I have received. The phone calls, text messages, cards, flowers, Facebook posts, visits, and kind words have meant the world to me and provided me much comfort. Thank You to you all from the bottom of my heart.
Over the last few days, I have been thinking a lot about family and what it means to me. I have a magnet on my refrigerator that reads, "Friends are the family we choose for ourselves." Even though I have an incredible blood family, I am blessed to have another family as well, that I made the choice to be a part of. I have always heard that the Miss Gay America system is a family, but I never really grasped that wholeheartedly until now. Family to me is a group that you know is there for you and that you can lean on, not only in times of joy, but in times of need. From the owners Larry and Terry, to formers, to promoters, to contestants, to fans .... your support of me over this year and especially over the last couple of weeks have shown me how strong of a family that we are. Families are not always perfect, but they are always there when you need them. You have shown me without a doubt, that I made the right choice by choosing to compete last October. I am thankful to be a part of this amazing family.

June 2012
"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives".
Growing up and being surrounded by sisters who were avid soap opera watchers, I often heard that famous epigraph each afternoon during summer vacation. However, being a young child, I never really grasped what it meant. Now that I am much older, and I'm a well into the eighth month of my reign, those words seem to keep ringing in my head. I have come to accept that we cannot stop the sands of time, and that each day will present itself with new activities and challenges. It is up to us to face each day, head on and do the best that we can. It seems like just yesterday that I was starting this amazing year as Miss Gay America, but in just a few months, I will be passing along the title to the next worthy individual.
The month of May proved to be a very busy and memorable one for me. The first weekend, I packed my bags and headed for Monroe, Louisiana to attend the Miss Gay Southern Elegance pageant which was held May 5th. This preliminary had not been held for a few years, so it was nice to see it's return to the system. The new promoter, David Green, eager with enthusiasm, picked me up on Friday night, from what I'm certain has to be the smallest airport I have ever been in. LOL. On a positive note, however, the airport was brand new and accommodating. After settling into my beautiful suite at the host hotel, we then headed to a show at The Corner Bar, where the staff and patrons were so welcoming and friendly. The show featured some amazing local entertainers, but highlighted it's special guest ....Miss Gay America 2005, Raquel Chevallier. It was good to have a night off from performing, just to show the male persona behind Miss Gay America and to meet some of the locals and socialize with the patrons and the contestants who arrived early for the pageant. On Saturday afternoon, I arrived at registration to find that seven wonderful contestants had showed up to compete. From the get go, I knew that I was in store for an incredible night of competition. After a delicious catered meal, followed by Male Interview, I prepared and headed over to Club Pink for the pageant. At the end of the night, Jessica Jade captured the title of Miss Southern Elegance 2012, with Sasha Leigh Chambers as 1rst Alternate. Sally Sparkles was on hand and looking lovely for her step down from the title that she carried faithfully for several years ... lol, as well as Maybelline Maskara, Miss Gay Louisiana 2011. The night was made even more special as I got to spend time with several of my Miss Gay America sisters ... Charity Case 2001, Nicole DuBois 2006, and of course, Raquel, who served as lead judge.
The following week, I boarded a plane and flew to Oklahoma City for the Miss Gay Oklahoma pageant on May 12 and 13. From the time he met me at baggage claim, promoter Tillie Lane proved to be a delight all weekend. We settled into the host hotel, the Habana Inn, which is the southwest's largest gay resort and then met with the other promoter, Steven Lofton for dinner. Later we headed over to Angles, which served as the host club for the review show, featuring Miss Gay Oklahoma 2011 Roxie Hart, who chose to make the evening a benefit for a local gay charity. Again, seven eager contestants battled it out for the prestigious crown, but Samantha West emerged as the winner, with Jezebell Banks as 1st Alternate. I look forward to seeing both of these gentlemen at Miss Gay America in October and what they bring to the stage. After literally an hour of sleep, I was back on an early flight heading home to North Carolina. Thank you to everyone in Oklahoma who made my first trip there a great one. I look forward to coming back in the future.
After a few days at home, I headed to Columbus, Ohio. Aron Aranda picked me up from the airport in style and we got to catch up over dinner before settling into my ultra modern hotel suite. Later that evening, I was special guest at Union Cafe and Club Axis, where I got to work with local favorites, the infamous West girls, Nina and Virginia, who was celebrating her birthday. The night proved to be a blast as I got reacquainted with the city that I was crowned in, last October. A special thanks to Sam Schisler for being such a gracious host at both establishments. The next day, four determined contestants showed up for the Miss Gay Mid Atlantic pageant. Each contestant presented their best and shown brightly, but it was Paige Passion who took top honors, followed closely by Deva Station claiming the 1st Alternate position. Many thanks to the very qualified judges panel who had a very difficult job in this extremely close pageant. I always have a great time in the beautiful city of Columbus, and look forward to returning for the Miss Gay Ohio pageant in July, and then again in October for Miss Gay America.
So, with the mention of Miss Gay America 2013 vastly approaching, and the sands of time flowing through the hourglass, I must reiterate some advice to qualified contestants and those hoping to qualify at future preliminaries. Use your time wisely and effectively to plan your package and carry out tasks and preparations that need to be done. Do not wait until the last minute or rely on your past experiences to help you get through, because you will find yourself in a predicament. It is crucial to go in with a well thought out plan and stick to it. Surround yourself with a group that is united in helping you achieve success, but is also helpful and honest with you about your package. In closing, those of you who are waiting around and trying to decide on things, I urge you to get busy and get things in gear. Time is of the essence.
Until next time,

July 2012
I'd like to start off by saying one thing. IT'S HOT!!!! Not that any of you need to be told that, unless you're living in Alaska. It's July and summer has only officially started, and temperatures are already hitting all time highs across the country. Here in North Carolina, we've been over the 100 degree mark for the last few days and it's supposed to last for a few more. You may wonder why I'm ranting about the obvious, but let me just state that drag and heat do not go well together. I personally vote that drag should be a winter sport only. LOL. July is sure to be not only hot in temperatures, but in pageantry as well. My month is booked solid with preliminaries happening every week. I am excited about what the month holds and the different states that I will be travelling to.
June actually has been a pretty easy month for me. Typically it is the month for most gay pride celebrations in different cities and states, so a lot of preliminaries weren't scheduled to interfere with the festivities. Here in NC, our pride celebration isn't until September, so I have been living vicariously through everyone else who have proudly participated in events across the country. With the joys of Facebook, I have been able to see pictures from friends in different places, and especially those from our city, regional, and state titleholders. It makes me feel good to see so many of my sisters and fellow competitors proudly wearing their America prelim crowns and sashes and representing our system so well. I commend you for displaying your true colors and being who you are and proud of what you do. Also, hats (or wigs) off to you for braving the heat and daylight while parading around in drag. LOL.
I only had one preliminary to officiate over in June and that was the Miss Gay Virginia pageant held in Richmond. Since Richmond is only about 3 hours from me, and I make the trip twice a month normally for my drag brunch bookings, I packed up the car and headed out to the beautiful historic city. I arrived at the host bar, Nations, and was greeted by Wayne Doggett, the promoter and by the owners of the club. On hand to help out with registration and to pass along the crown, was the reigning Miss Gay Virginia, Onyx Revlon, who assisted greatly. Three eager contestants showed up and displayed their best packages and it was a close fight to the end. Jazmen Diamond walked away with the crown and the title, with Patti Lovelace placing close behind as her as First Alternate. I am eager to see what both of these gentlemen bring to Columbus in October. Both are strong competitors with alot of love and passion for the system. A big thank you to Eric Gabbard, who worked so hard to help out administratively and with tabulating, to make sure the pageant ran smoothly. Also, a big thanks to the judges panel of Tom, LaCountress, Eric, Zakia, and Alvion for making my job a little easier.
The following weekend I had the pleasure to travel to the beautiful, charming city of Savannah, GA where I was the special guest at Club One. If you have never been to Savannah, I urge you to visit. It is a gorgeous little city filled with history and things to do, as well as being home to Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady and Sons. My 4th Alternate, Blair Williams, who is Club One's show director, was gracious enough to set up the booking for me. Even though it was a weekend of "work", it felt more like a vacation. I have visited Savannah a few times before, and absolutely have fallen in love with the city, so I was eager to return even though it was my first time performing there. Blair and the rest of the cast couldn't have made me feel any more welcome or at home. The antics of the dressing room kept me on my toes, my tongue sharp, and in stitches each night. To Blair, Layla, Kendall, Tiffany, Jazzmyn, and Lula ... thank you all for being the COLORFUL characters that you are! I will leave it at that, as they all were on pins and needles wondering what I would have to say about them in my column. LOL. I had an amazing time with all of you and can't wait to return!!
It's hard to believe that in just a little over three months, we will be crowning Miss Gay America 2013. With the down time that I have had in June, I have been busily trying to think of my theme for this year's pageant. The biggest reoccurring advice that I've been given is to do something where the contestants can have fun and showcase their individuality. So, with that in mind, I think I've decided on a theme, that is current and a little outside of the box. For all of you that have qualified and hope to do so, please check out www.missgayamerica.com in the upcoming weeks for info and details about the attire for presentation. I still have alot of details to work out, so I'll be racking my brain trying to come up with music, costumes, and layout for hopefully what will be an exciting opening production.
It seems that with the last few months of my reign, most of the prelims are scheduled to be back to back. I am anxious to attend alot of the state preliminaries to see what the contestants bring to the stage. There are also several regional prelims left for those of you who need to qualify for national pageant. Make sure to prepare wisely, since time is quickly drawing near. With only 3 months before Miss Gay America, the package you present at your state or regional pageant, is more than likely, what you'll be taking to Columbus in October. Good luck to everyone in their preparations. If you want to run anything by me, or just need an ear to listen, I'm always here for you.
Until next time, try and stay cool.

August 2012
WHEW!!!! Where does the time go??? It seems that July was over with, just as soon as it got started. It was a busy month for me with lots of travels and activities, making memories to last me a lifetime. Yet with so much going on, there was very little time for sleep. Whoever said that Miss Gay America needs sleep??? I will have time for that after October. LOL. Speaking of which ... I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that in just a little over 2 months, we will be crowning the next Miss Gay America. I hope the next lucky gentlemen is prepared for a whirlwind year.
July started, literally, with a preliminary. On Sunday, July 1, after a Saturday night of shows, I boarded a plane and headed to St. Petersburg for the Miss Gay Florida pageant. Ron Hernandez, the promoter, picked me up at the airport and we headed to the host hotel, a quaint bed and breakfast, with just enough time to catch my breath before contestant and judges' orientation. I arrived to meet 6 eager contestants who were ready to battle for the crown. The lovely Zhane' Kennedy was on hand to relinquish her title and lend a helping hand. After interview and a quick bite to eat, we headed to the beautiful Freefall Theatre which hosted the pageant. It was great to see former Miss Gay Florida America titleholders such as Crystle Chambers, Chantal Reshae, and Monica Moore, who served as emcee and kept the crowd in stitches. Victora DuPuis emerged as the winner, with Essence T. Van Cartier claiming the first alternate position. We then headed over to the local club, Georgie's Alibi for a victory show, followed by food of course, and great company. A fun time was had by all. I even got to play chauffeur at the end of the night. AHEM .... isn't that right Ron? LOL.
After a few days at home to regroup and repack, along with celebrating the 4th with some close friends, I headed to Harrisburg, Pa for Miss Gay Pennsylvania. After a hilarious van ride with my MGA sisters, Catia Lee Love and Nicole DuBois, we met up with fellow MGA sister, Coti Collins and headed to registration. I was greeted by promoters, Tim and Jeff who also own Club Liquid 891 which played host to the pageant. There were 8 great contestants who welcomed me with smiles and kind words, and I knew that I was in for a great weekend. Domiana Dupre was stepping down and was absolutely beautiful all weekend. It was also wonderful to meet and work with several former Miss Gay Pennsylvania America titlehodlers, who were on hand to help. I can tell that Pennsylvania has a strong sisterhood among their past winners, as they helped each other and the contestants. At the end of the weekend, Cloti Rodriguez was crowned and Georgia Versace Couture placed as first alternate. Before I knew it, I was back in the van with Jill and Sabrina (MGA code names) and headed to the airport to return home.
The following weekend found me returning to the city in which I was crowned Miss Gay America. Columbus played host to the annual Miss Gay Ohio America pageant. The reigning, Deva Station picked me up from the airport on Thursday afternoon and carted me around all weekend. As grateful as I am to him for doing that, I must say he has the most unfriendly drag vehicle known to man. Oh the joys of getting luggage in and out of his jeep. LOL. The first night in town, I was guest of promoter Aron Aranda for the Miss Gay Ohio dinner. A slew of formers and special VIP's got together for some great food, stories, and fun. The Miss Ohio's are a strong sisterhood, with strong personalities, but they all love and support each other as family. After two nights of prelims at Club Axis, we all gathered for final night as the Top 6 was announced. After some close competition, Selena Terrace-West was crowned the new Miss Gay Ohio, with first alternate going to Honey Below. As special as the weekend was and getting to see many Columbus friends, I must say the highlight for me was finally meeting John Greenwell, better known to most as Rachel Wells, Miss Gay America 1979. Just having the opportunity to sit and talk to such an icon was truly amazing, as I was a bit star-struck. Listening to his stories of the glory days of drag, made me feel lucky to be able to do what I love to do and travel around this country. Thank you John for being a pioneer in this great art form and for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.
I got to spend a few days at home and celebrate my 42nd birthday with a day of pampering and a quiet dinner with some close friends. Sometimes, you just need some time to yourself to catch your breath. Without fail, I was on a plane the very next weekend heading to our nation's capital, Washington DC for the Miss Gay Atlantic States pageant. Promoters Matt Minnier and Allan Dudley showered me with hospitality and attentiveness to make sure I didn't want for anything. After picking me up from the airport, and treating me to a delicious lunch, they got me settled into the infamous Mansion on O Street. If you're ever in DC, you must check out this hotel. The words eccentric and quirky are an understatement, as this hotel is quite the fascination and wonder with it's decor, memorabilia, and hidden doors and passages. At times, I thought I was going to get lost just trying to find my room. LOL. The next day we headed to Club Zigfield's, where 4 eager contestants were ready to compete. The stage was decked out in a "Garden of Jade" to honor the reigning Jessica Jade. After a close pageant, Araya Sparxx was crowned the winner, with Eclipse B. Childs as her first alternate. It was great to get to spend time with my good friend and promoter Robert York as well as Nicole Dubois, who served as emcee. After a near death, Dukes of Hazard ride thru DC after the pageant, with Nicole in the back and Jessica at the wheel, I managed to not lose any fries and get a few hours of sleep, before I was whisked away to the airport.
My last prelim of the month found me in Wichita for the Miss Gay Kansas pageant on July 28. This state pageant had not been held in a few years, so it was great to see it brought back to the system. A big thank you to promoter, Bruce Wightman aka Vanna Vincent for taking on the task of producing the pageant, in honor of his long time friend Fritz Capone, who was 1rst Alternate to Naomi Sims, Miss Gay America 1985. It was my first time in Kansas and everyone was so friendly and nice that they made me feel right at home. 5 contestants gave it their all, but in the end, Kyla Breeze walked away with the crown, and Godiva Romance wound up as first alternate. Charity Case, Miss Gay America 2001 was on hand to serve as head judge and offer me some sisterly advice and words of wisdom. It was great to spend some time with him, as well as a lot of other friends that I had made in years past at Miss Gay America pageants.
So, as you can see, July was quite the hectic month for me, and August is going to be even busier it seems. Even though I just talked about not getting alot of sleep, I wouldn't trade these experiences for anything in the world. I often dreamed of what it would be like to be Miss Gay America, and now I'm getting to know first hand. Travelling and meeting so many wonderful people make it all worth the while. Even though I can't mention all of you in my article, please know that I cherish the time we spend together and for everything that each of you do for me during my travels. Much love and thanks to you all.
Until next time,
Kirby

September 2012
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream." -Mark Twain
As the final months go by and my reign is coming to an end, I have asked myself was this year all that I had hoped for…? Often times we reflect on our lives and think there are plenty of things we wish we could go back and achieve, but life is not that forgiving. If you have something you want to achieve, now is the time to do it. I am proof that you will never be at ease until your goals are fulfilled. As I watched my fellow entertainers achieve their goals I realized it was time I "put my best foot forward" per se, and set sail to declare my turn to be Miss Gay America. With the prelim season coming to a close within September, many entertainers are following their hearts and pursuing their dream of being Miss Gay America. I urge all you to go after what you want to achieve in life, and never let anything or anyone stand in your way.
As I type this month's article, it is a bit difficult for me to remember everything that occurred in August, as it almost seemed to be a blur. Every week, I was rushing to the airport to jet off to another wonderful state and city and experience moments and people that I will forever cherish. I am truly fortunate to be living my dream of being Miss Gay America.
August started with a bang! I boarded a plane on Friday the 3rd and headed to the beautiful city of Phoenix for Miss Gay Arizona. I was anxious and excited to be returning to this great state, since I had the pleasure to visit for the first time back in January and completely fell in love with the place. This seems to be the norm for everyone I've talked with, who has visited this enchanting city. I was greeted at the airport by one of the promoters Daniel Eckstrom and my sister Luscious, Miss Gay America 2007 who would be serving as head judge for the weekend. It was great to catch up with these two as we drove to the hotel and got settled into our beautiful suites. Luscious caught me off guard by asking me point blank, "Would you do it all over again?" Without missing a beat, I replied, "Yes. Most definitely."
After a wonderful dinner that evening with Daniel's partner Nick and another judge Danny Pintauro (yes, of "Who's the Boss" fame) and a surprise visit by Barbra Seville, we all had the pleasure of going to see the reigning Miss Arizona Celia Putty in his weekly show. Celia tried his best to contain his emotions for it was quite a heartfelt weekend for him as he passed along the treasured title. It was great to see former Miss Arizona's Phaedra and Bunny FuFu who also performed that night.
The following morning we headed to Charlie's nightclub which served as host for preliminary night, where I was welcomed by co-promoter Lee Revelle and many former Miss Gay Arizona's. The sisterhood amongst these formers is very strong and it was great to see them all together. Eleven bright eyed and enthusiastic contestants were on hand to battle it out for the coveted crown. After two nights of wonderful competition, the stunning Di Va emerged as the victor, with Olivia Gardens securing the first alternate spot. This will be the first time for both of the gentlemen to be going to Miss Gay America, and I hope it's an experience that they will fall in love with. I have to make mention of the final night venue for Miss Arizona. The beautiful Tempe Center for the Arts was breathtaking and rivalled, if not outshone, any venue that hosts national pageants. My hats off to this facility and it's staff for an amazing performance theater.
After a day to repack and regroup, I drove to the Queen City of Charlotte, NC for the much anticipated Miss Gay North Carolina Pageant. Being this is my home state and the title that afforded me my first competition trip to Miss Gay America back in 1995, of course this pageant holds a special place in my heart. It is always a spectacle to behold in the state, and this year was certainly no different. Von Entertainment, along with Tiffany Storm and Brian Hemric pulled out all the stops for a stellar weekend at the Scorpio Nightclub. From the time I stepped foot in the city, I was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. It was truly a long time coming to be recognized as Miss Gay America at the pageant that started it all for me. An outstanding twenty contestants showcased their abilities and talents for a four day event, and at the end of it all, Ariel Knight Addams was crowned Miss Gay North Carolina 2012 with Angela Lopez as the first alternate. It was great to watch the beautiful Jessica Raynes Starr conclude a wonderful year and to get to reconnect with an abundance of my former NC sisters whom I had not seen in years. The highlight, however, was a picture that I got to be a part of on final night that included myself and seven former Miss Gay America's. It was quite overwhelming to be standing in the middle of such an elite group that I had longed to be apart of for so many years.
With two days to reorganize and pack again, I was off to Baton Rouge for the Miss Gay Louisiana pageant. The first night in town, Splash Nightclub played host to a welcome show featuring some of the contestants, but the highlight was a performance by David Greene, the promoter of the pageant. It was a fun night for everyone to get acquainted and socialize before the competition began. The next morning, 15 contestants showed up to compete and I could tell right off hand that they all were hungry for the crown. Maybelline Maskara, the reigning, was on hand to relinquish her crown and mentor the new batch of contestants, while always offering encouragement and words of advice. Several formers were also in attendance to help out with the pageant, and what a great pageant it was. The field of contestants was narrowed down to a Top 7 for final night and each of the contestants put it all on the line. The new Miss Gay Louisiana is Dextaci, and first alternate is Arilyn Roberts.
With just enough time after critiques, to scarf down a burger, iron some clothes, and grab a shower, I was whisked away to the airport to fly to Little Rock for Miss Gay Arkansas. I literally stepped of the plane, with no sleep, and headed straight to registration where seven contestants were ready to compete. The Arkansas Alumni Productions, headed by Shane Loftis and Dennis Harris, as well as other former Miss Arkansas America titleholders were gracious and hospitable to me while in town. Zia D'yor was stepping down from the title, and couldn't have been any more gracious and warm. The judges panel was top notch with experience and expertise, consisting of current national title holders Whitney Paige and Taylor Madison Monroe, along with former Miss Arkansas Kirby Kinkead (yes, another Kirby ...lol) and former Miss Gay America's Patti Le Plae Safe and Cherry Lane. It was wonderful to reconnect with Patti and such an honor to meet and chat with Cherry, someone I had only had the pleasure of seeing in pictures and on video. At the end of the night, Veronica Duvall was crowned the winner, with Chloe Jacobs securing the first alternate spot.
The following weekend, I found myself heading to Miss Gay Tennessee held in the beautiful city of Memphis. Don Wolfe and Howard Watts, the promoters of the pageant picked me up at the airport with only ONE of my suitcases. Somehow, the second suitcase never even made it onto the plane from Raleigh until the next day, but luckily it arrived in time. The following morning we all gathered at Crossroads Bar for registration and orientation. Pat McCooter, who was giving up the title, was an immense help to me. Nine contestants battled it out for two days with Suzy Wong being crowned the new Miss Gay Tennessee and Venus Knight as first alternate. Thanks to everyone in Tennessee who made the pageant a great success and for being so gracious to me.
The next morning, I had the pleasure of riding for 4 hours with Larry Tyger of L&T Entertainment to St Louis for the Miss Gay Mid West pageant. Michael Klataske, Anthony Volkman, Colin Murphy, and Donna Crane, the promoters of the pageant, greeted me with smiles and open arms. Four seasoned contestants showed up to battle it out and fight for the crown that Diva Coppafeel was relinquishing. After the interviews, we all gathered at Hamburger Mary's for a delicious lunch and then headed back to Attitudes Nightclub for the night's events. The legendary Kofi walked away with the crown, with Monica Moore as the first alternate. Even though my time in St Louis was brief, it was great to be there since I missed Miss Missouri earlier this year. I look forward to going back next week for Miss Gay Illinois.
As I wrap up this edition, being that I was just in the great state of Louisiana a few weeks ago, who showed me much hospitality, I want to ask everyone to keep them and the surrounding areas affected by the recent hurricane, in your thoughts and prayers. I hope it does not put a damper on the bright spirits from which I have seen during all of my visits to the south this year.
In closing, I hope everyone is preparing a total package that you can look back at and say there is no possible way you could of done it better.
Warmest Regards,
Kirby

Warmest Regards,
Kirby

I begin this month's article with another quote that I ran across earlier in the year. The words struck me in a most profound way, because as simple as they may seem, the statement couldn't be any truer. Even though "Excellence" is what the Miss Gay America system is synonymous for and what each contestant and titleholder strives to achieve and maintain, I feel that in life we need to show excellence in our every day activities as well. I knew that when I was crowned and became the "Symbol of Excellence" for the country, I had a huge responsibility to live up to. I found myself at times stressing and agonizing over whether or not I was living up to the expectations of a Miss Gay America. However, I have came to realize that because I had always molded myself and acted like a Miss Gay America, I already had the tools necessary for excellence. It reminds me of something that L&T had said before ... "In order to become Miss Gay America, you must first act like a Miss Gay America." As I have travelled this year, I displayed excellence by performing my administrative and entertainment duties more and more at each preliminary that I attended.
The month of September continued to be quite a busy one for me, as my final four preliminaries took place. I, however began the month with a Labor Day trip to the Windy City of Chicago. While there, I attended the annual Miss Continental Pageant and got to do the national titleholder's walk and be presented as Miss Gay America. Jim Flint, the owner of the pageant, was so gracious and kind as he announced me and told the story of how we came to know each other and formed a friendship over the years. It was truly an honor to walk across the stage and receive such a warm reception from the audience. It made me realize just how revered and respected the title is, outside of our own circle. It was a great night of pageantry and the top 12 finalists did a wonderful job. At the end of the evening, the lovely Sasha Colby emerged as the victor. Apparently, it must be the year of the Kolby's (Colby's). ;-) A big congrats to Sasha on her win, and to Jim Flint for a successful pageant.
The following weekend, I boarded a plane and headed to St. Louis for the Miss Gay Illinois pageant. I was excited to be returning, as I had just been in the city two weeks prior for Miss Mid West. CJ, aka Trixie LaRue greeted me at the airport and whisked me away to my beautiful hotel suite, so that I could get some rest before a night of festivities. Later that evening, I was the special guest entertainer at Hamburger Mary's, which played host to a former's review show as well as a meet and greet event for the contestants. While there, I got to meet co-promoter Sable Sinclair, who was excited for the weekend. It was a fun show despite inclement weather and the threat of a tornado, plus getting to perform with the Krista Versace, Mariah Candy, Jodie Santana, and the reigning Miss Gay Illinois America Adria Andrews, who would be relinquishing her title the next night. The next morning, I arrived at the beautiful Casa Loma Ballroom for registration and got to meet the contestants, ready to battle it out for the crown. After a nail biting night of competition, the talented Dayonna Hilton was crowned the new Miss Gay Illinois with Diva DeParis placing as first alternate. A special thanks to the superb judges panel of Krystal Leight, Mahongany Knight, Donna Crane, Ineda Cochtael, and Jodie who were all a joy to work with and made my job much easier.
After two days at home to regroup and repack, I flew to the beautiful historic city of San Antonio for the Miss Gay Texas pageant. One of the promoters, Kristian Martinez met me at the airport with a big hug and a smile. He and his partner and co promoter, Christyan Sangineto played hosts to me for the evening at their lovely home, where the third promoter, Gizelle Bevon Ashton was on hand busy working on gift bags for the contestants and judges. I brought along the DVD of the Miss Gay America 2012 pageant for them to view since they were not able to attend last October. The next morning we headed to the host club, The Heat, which hosted the two day event. Sixteen contestants were on hand for registration and were eager to get started on competition. The lovely Jenna Skyy was there to help out and relinquish her title, after a successful year of promoting and rebuilding the pageant. I must commend Jenna and the promoters for the hard work and dedication they have put into rebuilding and making the pageant a success. Your endeavors definitely paid off and I see a bright future for the Miss Gay Texas pageant in years to come. It was also great to see and work with all the former Miss Texas' , who were there to help and support, especially Sally Sparkles and my MGA sisters, Charity Case and Tasha Kohl. After two great nights of pageantry, Kara Dion walked away as the winner, with Alexia Crawford securing the first alternate position.
The following day, I flew to Charlotte for the weekend which was to hold my final two preliminaries. Mike Rhinehart, the promoter for both Miss Gay South East and Miss Gay Mid East went above and beyond to make sure I was well taken care of for the weekend. On Saturday, we drove to Lake Wylie,SC and The Rainbow Inn which hosted Miss South East and was joined by the reigning, Emory Starr. Three contestants, who were hungry to secure their spots to the national pageant, fought hard and strong, but it was Jessica Deveraux of Key West who took top honors, with Andrea Carlisle securing her spot as first alternate. It was a fun night and a special thanks to all who came out and supported the pageant. In attendance, was Kerri Nichols, Miss Gay America 1996 who offered some beautiful words of advice for my final prelims. The next morning I got in the car with my good sister and friend, Jennifer St James, who whisked me to the beautiful city of Hickory, NC for my last prelim, Miss Gay Mid East. Even though only two contestants showed up, they definitely gave their all that night. Emory Starr was crowned and Bridget Nickles came in a close second. It as an emotional night for me since it was my last prelim, but even more special as I was joined by two former MGA's and fellow North Carolinians, Tiffany Bonet and Coti Collins. It meant a lot for me that I was joined by my three dear sisters that weekend. I also want to give a heartfelt thanks to several people who were on hand that weekend to help with the pageants .... Chantel Reshae, Blair Williams, Reba Lamkey, Mike Divoky, and Rodney Brown. My final prelims were a blessing and a wonderful close to a great year.
So, with only three weeks to pull everything together for my give up at the Miss Gay America 2013 pageant, I have been busy preparing and getting things ready. All the while trying to juggle shows and bookings, it has proven to be a bit overwhelming at times. One booking that I must mention was last week at a club with a rich history in the shaping of Kirby Kolby. I would like to say thanks to Limelight of Greenville, NC for one of the most memorable bookings of my year. Even though the club itself has only been in operation for a few months, it is housed in the same location as the former Paddock Club which supported me for many years in my quest to become Miss Gay America. It is owned and operated by several people who have stood by me over the years and it was great to be back on the old stage where I first got to work so many years ago. Seeing old fans and friends was quite a humbling experience, as I finally got to stand before them as the reigning Miss Gay America.
It's hard to believe that in two shorts weeks, I will be crowning the next Miss Gay America. I only hope the next lucky man to wear the crown has as much love for the system as I have. I wish him the best as he embarks on a life changing year. This year has definitely changed mine in more ways than one, and made me a stronger person because of it. I will cherish the friendships and memories that I made while travelling this great country. I thank everyone who welcomed me into their cities and states, and showered me with warm greetings and hospitality. So many have asked if I am sad to be passing along the crown. I must admit there is sadness involved, but a wealth of other emotions. I am at peace knowing that I had an amazing year and gave it all that I could. I am excited for the next gentleman and happy that he too will get to experience a great year like I did.
Thank you all for sharing the wonderful journey with me.
Humbly yours,
Miss Gay America 2012 Kirby Kolby
