January 2010 Edition Of
"The Excellence"
From the desk of Larry & Terry
It
is difficult to believe that 2009 is history and we are beginning a new year.
2009 was a very trying year to say the least, not in terms of pageantry, but in
terms of various personal issues (i.e. work and family) that has made 2009 a
“not so good year”… In regards to the pageant, it was relatively smooth
year as we were blessed with a great Miss Gay America, Victoria DePaula who is
beautiful (both inside and out), a great entertainer and an exceptional
administrator…all of which is a winning combination that allowed him to leave
a very positive mark in the legacy of the Miss Gay America pageant system.
Then, the next weekend, we traveled to
Columbus
,
Ohio
to finalize plans for the Miss Gay America 2011 pageant. We were successful and
secured a host hotel. We also tentative secured location for Revue Show and
Final Night, contracts pending but will be finalized in January. While we were
in
Columbus
, we were able to visit with many friends. The snow fall was a treat for us,
during this month of Christmas… Thanks to Aron, Nick and Sam for being such
great coordinators of our weekend in
Columbus
. Aron once more ensured that we were on time, each time and every time… Also,
thanks to Aron and Andrew, for a lovely evening in your beautiful home. The city
of
Columbus
has shown tremendous effort to host the Miss Gay America pageant system and we
look forward to working with you during the coming year.
Then,
as if the month was not busy enough, we decided to go to
New Orleans
for the Christmas weekend. While we are blessed with great family and love them
dearly, this was a year that we simply needed to get away, so off to
New Orleans
we went. Before arriving into the city, we were able to tour the new and lovely
home of Raquel Chevallier (Miss Gay America 2005) and Chris Wilderman. It was
great to spend a couple of hours with Raquel, Chris, Basco and the new baby
kittens. One thing of interest, within their lovely home, it the curio cabinet
that is proudly displayed in the entry way of their home. Within the curio
cabinet, is the crown, tiara, scepter, sash, lapel pin, awards and photo of one
of Scott’s (Raquel) greatest accomplishments, which was winning the title of
Miss Gay America 2005. Equally proud was Chris and it is clear that to this day,
his support helped Raquel see one of her proudest moments come to reality.
Earlier in the year, we were able to see the curio “award” cabinet of
Victoria DePaula and it is quite amazing to see the pride in the display of
accomplishments. It is humbling to be able to continue, although tough at times
it may be, something that is so meaningful to so many. Congratulations again to
Raquel and Chris on the purchase of your lovely home. Also, congratulations to
Raquel as she recently received a masters degree… Our trip to
New Orleans
was great and relaxing, which is just what was needed after such a stressful
year…
And
now, here we are in the new year… Whether we are ready or not, the preliminary
pageant season is rapidly approaching so we will soon begin to update the web
site with dates for preliminaries, so needless to say, our “down time” that
was not so “down” will gear up in just a few weeks.
We
hope that each of you have a healthy, safe and prosperous New Year. We
appreciate your continued support of the Miss Gay America pageant system and we
look forward to seeing each of you, as we attend various pageants throughout the
country.
Until
then, take care and we wish you the contestants and promoters the best of luck,
as you begin preparations of your contest.
Until
Next Time!
Larry and
Terry
