January 2008 Edition Of"The Excellence"Mikaila's Mirror
My
holidays were filled with family and lots of memories. I think the best thing
was my mom knowing how much I missed the snow that she bought a snow machine. I
pulled into her driveway about 9 pm on Christmas Eve and I saw this huge snowman
on the steps. I thought to myself that’s odd.. a random huge snowman. Well as
I approached it the ground around it was covered in crystallized snowflakes. It
was blowing up in the air like a little blizzard. It meant a lot to me just that
little moment to see snow falling. I
am truly blessed for everything I have in my life at this point and time… even
for the little things. I
am gearing for the pageant season to be full speed ahead in the next two months.
Much preparation has been going on since being crowned Miss Gay America in
October to make sure the next year runs smoothly and glitch free. Training has
begun with L&T Entertainment, and I have been speaking with a lot of
promoters in my preparation for prelims to start discussing themes and plans.
I have been contacting state and regional title holders to set up small
tours while in their area to promote the system in a positive and strong manner.
I want to be everywhere I can this next year representing L&T Entertainment
and the Miss Gay America System. Uniting everyone involved to make it a strong
and remembered year. I just can’t explain in words how excited emotionally and
physically I am to dig into this journey I’m going to be living and breathing
it, the next year. New
Years Eve is right around the corner and by the time everyone reads this it will
have passed. It’s that time of the year when everyone makes resolutions and
promises to change and do new things. When in actual reality they will last for
about two weeks if we are lucky, and we then return back to being our usual
selves. We get bogged down with the busy-ness of life and daily
stresses…that’s where you take a
step back, breath and say I set a goal and I’m going to stick to it. It’s
about determination and being focused to want something so bad you can see it as
if it was real. Put it out in the universe…sounds corny or hokey but it really
works. The secret to maintaining a happy life is to focus on the good. Yes bad
things happen sometimes but the more we focus on the bad the more it comes
around. It’s about the positive energy you put out that sets the vibes around
you and those around you. Ever notice when you’re in a checkout lane and the
clerk seems irritated? She might ask how you are but do we ever bother to ask
how they are. Try it… they tend to seem amazed that someone else cares about
them. Its true. It’s about how you glow that makes others around you glow too. So
my advice next time you see someone who looks like they need a cup of cheer,
just smile and say hello or have a good day. You’ll be amazed at what
goes around comes around. Keep your head held high, your energy positive and
focus on what you want and you can make anything you’ve ever dreamed of yours
in time. May your New Year be filled with lots of love and joyful blessings.
To
many, the new year means that it is time for a fresh start, and in many ways
that is very true. As we are in the process now, of renewing preliminary
pageants and attempting to add new pageants for the Miss Gay America 2009
season, we cannot help but to reflect on the Miss Gay America 2008 season. Just
when we thought that the Miss Gay America 2008 season was going to be one of the
smoothest since our acquisition of the national contest, we were soon snapped
into reality that no matter how hard we try to maintain the integrity of this
pageant system, there is always going to be someone who does not know how to
behave, which forces us to do what we had rather not, and that is to issue
disciplinary actions against those whose actions were clearly not in the best
interest of the Miss Gay America pageant system. From the disgruntled contestant
(who was certain the contest was “rigged” because they simply could not
identify their weakness but rather took the easy road, which was to blame the
promoter or the panel of judges, for their obvious lack of preparedness), or to
the promoter who failed to exercise appropriate judgment in the operation of
their contest which ultimately led to greater than normal stress,
or to the former who could not abide by the requirements of L & T
Entertainment which ultimately led to suspension and the most likely again never
having the full trust of L & T Entertainment, the Miss Gay America pageant
season was filled with surprises, basically from the beginning of the pageant
season, to its end. While the Miss Gay America 2008 pageant season may have had
greater than normal drama, it is nice to reflect on the week of competition, in
October 2007, to see that someone who placed 32nd in the most recent
prior year of competition, was willing to listen with an open mind and positive
attitude, and was able to overcome certain obstacles, and then win the title of
Miss Gay America 2008. Yes, we were (and might still somewhat be) nervous about
someone so young, serving as the reigning Symbol of Excellence, it is with great
excitement that after the ”Father-Daughter” retreat weekend with Mikaila in
early December, that we can say that he is more prepared than ever to soon begin
the duties of Miss Gay America. He is willing to listen and learn and has the
desire to be “among the best” and wants his year to be the best it can be.
With the realization that this will be a stressful year at times, he has been
preparing the most recent two months, for costumes and performances, that can be
easily traveled while yet still be entertaining. While there is still more
preparation to do, we are anxious to see Mikaila working with the contestants,
promoters and audience, as he makes his mark on gay history as serving as our
Miss Gay America 2008. Each Miss Gay America offers something unique to the
crown and all are different in many ways but we are now more eager than ever, to
begin the journey as we will soon begin the search for the next Miss Gay
America. Happy
New Year to you and yours!
