August 2007 Edition Of
"The Excellence"
The "L" Word! (L for Love, L for Life and L for
Luscious)
I’ve
always been advised to be careful for what you ask for because you just might get
it. I would like to relate this in
terms of Miss Gay America. Before
you begin scratching your heads, allow me to elaborate.
I wished very early in my competitive career to be crowned Miss Gay
America. I even devoted several
years of my life towards studying and training and preparing to someday win.
When I finally did win, I was expected to automatically take the book
knowledge of the rules and regulations coupled with my own personal experiences
and good judgment to tour the country as entertainer and ambassador.
Immediately upon winning the national title the focus shifted and I was
expected to show what I declared to have known.
Even I, who sat in interview and told the judges that I knew the rules
and regulations (the book) like the back of my hand, was put in check when I had
to apply the information from prelim to prelim.
I
sit in on many contestant interviews, even those of former top 10 veterans, to
hear them stumble and ramble when asked “Outside of entertaining, what are the
job duties of Miss Gay America?” For
those of you out there competing and applying for the job, are you familiar with
the additional job functions? I’ll
take it one step further and ask, are you ready to step into the position?
I encourage you to take a little while to think about this, because as
Miss Gay America you will be expected to follow out the enforcement of the rules
and regulations. This might be
easier said than done. Especially
when your having to do so might leave you having to make a very “unpopular”
decision. Additionally, it might
leave you having to make a decision which might coincidentally affect one of
your comrades and rub them the wrong way. I
won’t speak of any specifics, but I will say to those of you applying for the
MGA title should be prepared for the unexpected challenges of demonstrating book
knowledge in real life situations. Even
though the end result might be one which leaves certain parties upset, angered
and confused, your job is to DO YOUR JOB! So
be careful what you ask for and if you are blessed to get it, be prepared to go
with it full speed.
I

On
a personal note…I’m frustrated
about my final night opening production right now.
By now I expected to have secured the dancers that I wanted to be part of
this production. However, I won’t
get anxious just yet. If I don’t
have it all worked out by the next newsletter then, I might need all of my state
and regional promoters to come to the rescue.
I can see it now, all of my butch promoters standing behind me as my
backup girls! All of my female and
entertainer promoters will be on stage as my man toys! Get
ready L&T, umma need some big booty dancin’ video girls!!!
That will give us all about a month for choreography.
What does my opening mean to
me?I have worked myself to oblivion trying to leave my personal legacy within
the MGA family. I want my production
to be representative of what my reign encompassed.
I kept both, the glamour of wearing the prestigious crown and the energy
and fun that I experienced in meeting everyone throughout the year, in mind as I
chose my 2 part production. In my
final night as MGA, I would like to offer the friends and fans that I’ve made
along my journey to the crown, a gift. So,
indeed, it is very important to me. It
is almost as important as my first show in my home bar after capturing the title
last October.
How important is the opening
to the country?
To
be honest, I’m not sure. I hope it
will be just another validation as to what the judges saw in me 12 months prior
when I was on stage as a competitor. Hopefully,
it will also be testament of my growth as an entertainer throughout my reign.
Whatever
its relevance is to you, I hope that I leave you satisfied that I gave you all
the best of me for the past 12 months of my life.

Ready or not, here it comes….
We can
hardly believe that in just under 90 days, we will crown Miss Gay America 2008.
This year has been an unusual year as the newcomers have really made an
impressive beginning to competition in this system. Many have commented that the
newcomers have obviously done their homework and are more prepared than ever to
do battle with the veteran competitors. It is exciting to see such a well
rounded group of competitors and we anxiously look forward to the Miss Gay
America 2008 pageant.
Contestants,
now is the time, to research what you need to do to properly prepare for the
national competition. If you are going to score well at the nationals, it is all
about planning and preparing. Very few will ever score well with a last minute
competition package. Whether you have qualified or intend to qualify for this
pageant season, you should be in the midst of preparation for the national
competition to ensure that you will represent your contest in a manner, for
which they (the promoters) can be proud of you. With every thing you do, you,
the contestant should have a “wow” goal and then a realistic goal. Setting
your goals too high can be somewhat discouraging if you do not obtain your
goals, which is the reason we recommend, that you determine what is it that you
ultimately want, in competition, then begin a game plan to get you to that
point. As we continue to state, all contestants have a clean slate on the first
day of competition…what you do from that point on it up to you. Consistency,
consistency, consistency, wins pageants. You might not necessarily win every
category but generally speaking, you will most likely need to place in the top 3
in each category in order to win. We have made the rules available to the
contestants. You should read the categories (again and again), then make certain
that your standards meet or exceed what you think the judges will want to see.
In order to be successful, you must be willing to swallow your pride, and listen
to others who will be truly honest with you, about your competition package.
Knowledgeable advisors are key to making improvements therefore contestants are
strongly encouraged to consult with their promoters about every aspect of their
competition package, for input and recommendation. Competition is never easy, on
any level, and when you are competing against the “best of the best” you
always take a risk but hopefully, when the competition is over, regardless of
whether or not you have a crown placed on your head, we trust that you will
leave the competition, as a stronger entertainer, to help advance the
entertainment value in this art form of female illusion….
So get ready, because ready or not, in just less
than 90 days, the Miss Gay America 2008 pageant will begin...
Until next
time……
Larry and
Terry
