December 2006 Edition Of Excellence

The "L" Word! (L for Love, L for Life and L for Luscious)

I’m bitter that grandma let my cousin attempt making the macaroni and cheese this year! Why let her experiment on a holiday????

This November installment is produced on a tight but content stomach.

Once again, I want to thank you all for the overwhelming congratulatory emails that I’ve received from you. I was set on making sure that I responded to each and every last one of them.

Next weekend I will be visiting with L&T to have my first official “Father/Daughter” meeting to discuss Miss Gay America related items. I’m excited to be able to show them the knowledge that I already have in relation to MGA administration and equally excited to learn any new codes of conduct they may have to offer. We’ll also make decisions on the official Miss Gay America promo pictures that I recently had taken. I traveled to Atlanta, GA last weekend to have promo pictures taken with Xopher Productions. So you should be seeing some new “mugshots” of me on the website soon enough. Oh, and if I look like I’ve gained a few pounds, we’ll blame it on Thanksgiving dinner.

I’ve received telephone calls and emails from several state and regional promoters. As a contestant, I didn’t realize all of the planning and preparation that it takes to promote a city, state or regional preliminary contest, to Miss Gay America. There are several promoters that are on top of the ball and have already secured venues, hotel reservations, tickets and such. This preparation is most definitely, setting the pace for a smooth, well executed contest. I can’t wait to place a face with the emails/calls that I’ve received from each of you.

I’ve been getting several calls from people wanting to become involved with Miss Gay America this pageant season. It is the ultimate compliment that so many people (newcomers and former title holders in this system) have contacted me to express interest in a prelim. I offer my opinion only when someone asks me about their competition package, but it comes with the disclaimer that “this is only My opinion and I am by no means an expert on what will represent You the best”. So for any of you that get frustrated in your preparations for a prelim and need a 2nd, 3rd, or a 4th opinion, feel free to hit me up. I can be reached by email at LusciousMGA2007@aol.com.

My next issue of “The L Word” will have a detailed account of the happenings at my first official preliminary appearance as Miss Gay America, the Miss Pride of Florida America prelim in Clearwater, FL on December 17th. I’m excited about a warm Florida trip in the middle of December to help thaw me out just before Christmas. Anyone interested in competing or wanting more information on this contest should contact Gary or Jacobi at Garyvdetroit@aol.com or jacobiproductions@yahoo.com. Vicki Vincent and I will arrive the day before, so look for both of us in a city nearby. Oh, and I’m hoping to get to see a former Miss Florida America Daphne Farraro and the DisneyGal herself, Chantel Reshae (also a former Miss Florida America) in my short trip to the sunshine state.

The songs that are on my hot performance list right now are:
1. Janet Jackson’s – So excited
2. Ciara’s – Get Up
3. Martha Wash’s – I’m still standing! (this oldie but goodie has been going over surprisingly well)

In December, I’ll be touring Dallas, TX. I’m getting my big hair ready for you girls!
I can’t wait ‘til Christmas so, finally, I can get the macaroni and cheese that I was anticipating!

Love ya,
Luscious

Raquel's Reality By Raquel Chevallier (MGA 2005)

Hello everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying life and the beginning of this year’s holiday season! First of all I would like to extend a very special congratulations and welcome to the family to our newest sister, Luscious! I always heard from other former MGA’s that they could see that this one or that one would become MGA. Well, I guess it takes the crown to touch your head for you to instantly begin receiving that gift, because it’s true. During my reign when I crowned her Miss Kansas Regional, I knew that Luscious would one day become Miss Gay America.

Since Nicole and I both perform at a lot of the same clubs down here, it was quite confusing to the people to have two Miss Gay Americas two years in a row. So to make it easier on everyone, we were just referred to as 005 and 006, like secret agents. It was then we knew that we were in search of the James Bond of MGA. Luscious is our 007!

I was so impressed and proud of all the contestants, the caliber and the overall professionalism that you all had. It was so great to see how each of you worked together and helped each other. That made me proud of you and of our system. The top ten was amazing. I would like to offer a bit of advice from someone who’s been there many times. For those of you who are veterans and see yourself inching and climbing your way to top ten, this is just the drive you need to keep pushing for gold, and rhinestones!

The entire year was very special to me in several ways. I was able to share some of the joy with Nicole and see the person that I crowned continue to do the job and glory of Miss Gay America. But, also it was special because I met and bonded with so many of you during my reign, and there I was serving as head judge, as a former MGA. It still gives me chills to this day and the feeling of coming full circle.

Since my article is entitled “Raquel’s Reality” I wanted to share some information with you all about my continuing reality. I had it set in my plans that after I traveled for a year after becoming a former MGA, that it would then be time for me to continue with a different career path, since I had achieved my dream of winning Miss Gay America.

I have just made a major exciting career change. I am now working for the gulf south’s largest hospital conglomerate, Ochsner Hospital. My specific location is the Medical Library where I am the Services Coordinator. It’s very exciting with tremendous growth. And with weekends off, I will still be able to travel occasionally!

Please take the holidays to enjoy your loved ones, recharge your batteries and give yourself a chance to wipe the slate clean and think as an artist to figure out your next step. Please know that every Miss Gay America is available to chat and help you figure out your next move. Don’t be intimidated to pick up the phone and call, after all who do you think helped us!

All my love,
Raquel Chevallier

And the circle of pageantry continues…..

As we bring close to year 2006, we reflect on all of the good (and not so good) things that occurred within this national pageant system and can realize the positive direction for which we are moving. Yes, 2006 had its share of drama, but as with any organization, we conquered the obstacles as they occurred and continue to positively move forward.

Now that we have crowned Miss Gay America 2007, we look forward to all of the preparedness needed to ensure that all, affiliated with this system, will have a pleasant Miss Gay America 2008 pageant season. The preparedness begins with a Fathers/Daughter Retreat with Miss Gay America 2007-Luscious, for which the primary purpose will be to ensure that Luscious is better prepared to assist you (contestants and promoters) with your goals. There is much detail that is invested into a successful preliminary and we will be sure that the L & T Entertainment team (Larry, Terry and Luscious) is prepared to assist you with a very successful contest. Many of the things we will be covering with Luscious will include score sheet review, judges etiquette, promoters etiquette, contestant etiquette and other regulations of the Miss Gay America pageant system. It is amazing, how quickly time passes and it seems as though the search for the next Miss Gay America is always in motion, in fact, we are already working on detail for the Miss Gay America 2008 pageant. Promoting a preliminary is not an easy thing to do, nor is it an inexpensive thing to do, but we hope that at the end of the pageant season, you can reflect upon your year, including preparation, the contest, working with your titleholder and alternate, to send them to the nationals, and feel that your pageant experience was rewarding in every way.

We have reviewed the proofs of the photographs for Luscious and promise to have many beautiful photos for your viewing pleasure. We hope to make a decision, regarding the official promotional photos and will have those available to you, by the end of December.

No matter your belief, we hope that each of you will take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the holiday season…

Until next time…

Larry & Terry
